SlashU Season 2
Episode 21. We started Season 2 of SlashU with a New Year's-themed slasher movie. We figured it was the beginning of a new year, why not pick a movie that's relevant to the holiday. This one featured some Punk Rock! Got to love the '80s
Episode 22. The theme of picking our movies to coincide with a nearby holiday continued. Since it was close to Valentine's Day, we had to go with this movie. This gem proves that even a pick axe can make an excellent murder weapon.
Episode 23. This movie took place all in a grocery store. Movies that stick to one location always seem a bit more "claustrophobic." This was a classic example of the misdirect when the movie tries to make you think the killer is someone obvious.
Episode 24. This movie had great examples of how they treated computers, the Internet, and other related technology back in the '80s. We've come a very long way and I'm sure people 40+ years from now will make fun of our iPhones. But the reveal of who the killer is in this one made for one of the better twists we've seen.
Episode 25. A woman returns to her home town from the military to attend the graduation in place of her sister who died from a tragic accident during her high school track meet. Yes, that's a mouthful. This movie also features your co-hosts favorite excuse to get away with anything, "I pay my taxes!"
Episode 26. Revenge always makes for a great motive in slasher movies. This one is no different. The high school outcast Marty gets revenge on the group of popular kids who tormented him. It's just a shame this one kind of went off the rails near the end. You have to see it to believe it.
Episode 27. Another slasher movie centered around a sorority. However this one had a bit of a twist. A prank gone wrong (classic trope) ends up with someone dead and the girls have to try and cover it up. But then a killer starts stalking them. Another fun time trying to figure out who it is.
Episode 28. I guess we got tired of the 'usual' slasher stuff where there's a sorority, or a summer camp or something predictable like that. So we got way out of the box on this one. The movie takes place at a hotel and you know right away who the killer is. It's proof that not all slashers have to "follow the formula."
Episode 29. Who doesn't like a good Drive-in Movie? I'll tell you who; the people who get killed in this movie. What better place for a slasher to stalk his victims than going car to car while they make out with each other? This one had all the classic elements we love here at SlashU.
Episode 30. We've seen some weird slashers in our movies, but this brother/sister duo are probably a couple of the weirdest. And as far as cannibalism in our movies goes, these two re-defined the phrase "fresh meat." The cover art gives a clue, go check it out.
Shallow Grave
Episode 31. This one was a great example of a group of people (victims) who get lost on a road trip (booze fest) and end up in a remote location (the woods) and are stalked by the killer (redneck cop). Just when you thought you could trust the police, right?
Episode 32. This episode was directly recommended to us by our streaming algorithm after we watched the movie featured in Episode 31. Pretty basic premise; there's someone on the loose dressed as a cop going around killing people. Also stars B-movie icon Bruce Campbell!
Episode 33. This was another one that took place at a summer camp, and another one featuring some revenge. Plus you get to see Jason Alexander before he grew up to play George Costanza on Seinfeld. Great stuff!
Episode 34. Oh look! A crazy killer using a giant drill (metaphor for his wiener) goes around killing sorority girls. Never gets old!
Episode 35. Here was another movie that didn't follow the classic "slasher" formulas. It takes place at an annual fishing tournament and it was filmed right here in the great state of Wisconsin where your co-hosts record your favorite podcast!
Blood Tracks
Episode 36. We had a lot of fun talking about this one because it featured another movie-within-a-movie premise...kind of. It's a film crew recording a rock music video. So in addition to some great kills, and the usual slasher stuff we seek out, it's got an awesome hair band!
Episode 37. We went on a little run here of movies with "Blood" in the title. But we figured, "hey, they're good." And then we came to Blood Theatre and realized they're not all that good. Your co-host Nick insists this movie had aliens in it. Watch it and decide for yourselves.
Episode 38. It's another killer out on the 'prowl' based on some past events. This movie started out with a double murder happening right after World War II and then jumps to the future where the killings are starting up again.
Army of the Dead
Episode 38.5. We took a break from our usual slasher genre and dipped into the zombie movie world. This was a shorter episode and another one that guest-starred our lovely wives. We wanted to put out and episode but we were short on time because your co-host Andy was getting married right around the time this episode came out. So we just watched this one on Netflix and talked about what we thought.
